Iris uniflora is a plant in the family Iridaceae, native to Tibet, Siberia, Mongolia, China, and Korea. The genus name Iris derives from the Greek iris (“rainbow”), which also designates Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Some authors suggest that the name alludes to the wide variety of flower colours found among species of the genus. The specific epithet uniflora comes from Latin uni‑ (“one”) and flos (“flower”), indicating that the plant typically bears a single flower. Iris uniflora is used in traditional Tibetan medicine to treat visual impairments and ringworm.
