The human-shaped stone sculptures found in many places around Central Asia, Siberia and Mongolia are widely known as “balbals”. Some of them are simple stone columns, with a rough image of a human face, on others the head (with the narrowed neck) is clearly depicted. They are memorials to the feats of the deceased, every balbal represents an enemy killed by him.
